Day 1: "I am the Lord's servant."
BLOG SERIES: The Birth of Jesus—Obedience leads to Blessings
Can you imagine? Can you imagine being from a small village, being betrothed, and knowing that your family had been waiting years for the day when you’d marry? Can you imagine how much was hanging in the balance of your wedded union? Can you imagine the importance of what would be offered, what would be exchanged to bless your family for the loss they would feel when you left?
And then can you imagine unexpectedly becoming pregnant? Can you imagine becoming pregnant not with your fiancée’s child, but pregnant through the Holy Spirit? Can you imagine the emotion that would come with such an unexpected pregnancy?
Can you imagine how things might look? Can you imagine what people might think, say, or even do? Can you imagine how such an unexpected pregnancy would change the plan you had for your life?
I mean, WHOA.
Right?
And yet, despite all the what-if’s, despite how terrifying or paralyzing they may have been, Mary’s response is one of beautifully brave obedience. “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.”
In the coming 13 days, together we will see how the obedience of this highly favored woman, and the obedience of others, lead to the most beautiful blessing the world has ever known.
